If you have a passion for style and a desire to work in the beauty industry, you may find yourself at a crossroads: Barbering vs. Cosmetology. While both fields focus on helping clients look and feel their best, the technical skills, training hours, and career services involved are distinct. Understanding the differences between Barbering vs. Cosmetology is a vital step in selecting an educational path designed to support your career aspirations.

At 做厙輦⑹, our Barber Styling and Cosmetology programs are designed to provide the opportunity for students to develop the hands-on proficiency and theoretical knowledge intended for entry into these creative fields.

The Technical Divide: Skills and Services

The primary difference when comparing Barbering vs. Cosmetology lies in the scope of services provided.

  • Barbering: Primarily focuses on men’s grooming and high-precision short hair cutting. Specialized skills include the art of the straight razor shave, beard design, and complex tapering (fades).
  • Cosmetology: Offers a comprehensive approach to beauty. In addition to hair design and color, the curriculum includes esthetics (skincare), makeup application, and nail technology (manicures/pedicures).

Licensing and Training in Florida

In Florida, the path to becoming a licensed professional depends on the specific board requirements for clock hours.

  • Cosmetology Requirements: Requires 1,200 hours of training to be eligible for the Florida Board of Cosmetology exam.
  • Barbering Requirements: Requires 900 hours for a full Barber license or 600 hours for a Restricted Barber license to sit for the Florida Barbers’ Board exam.

The Hybrid Advantage: Dual Licensure

At 做厙輦⑹, we offer a Barber Styling / Cosmetology Diploma program designed for students who want the best of both worlds. This 50-week curriculum is intended to provide the educational foundation for students to apply for both licensure exams.

Pro Tip: Already have a cosmetology license? Our crossover program is designed to allow you to work toward your barbering credentials in as few as 12 weeks.

Career Environments: Where Will You Work?

Graduates from our programs pursue various professional paths (though specific employment cannot be guaranteed):

  • Community Barbershops: Social environments focused on quick, high-precision grooming.
  • Full-Service Salons: Fast-paced settings specializing in color, chemical treatments, and long-hair styling.
  • Resorts & Spas: High-end environments offering a mix of hair, skin, and nail services.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Can a cosmetologist use a straight razor in Florida?

A: Generally, no. In Florida, the straight razor shave is a specialized competency reserved for licensed barbers.

Q: Is financial aid available for these programs?

A: Yes, financial aid is available to those who qualify. As an accredited institution, 做厙輦⑹ participates in federal student aid programs to help students manage their educational investment.

If youre passionate about beauty and considering a career in the industry, you may find yourself comparing cosmetology vs. esthetics. While both fields focus on helping people look and feel their best, they involve different training, techniques, and career options. Understanding these differences can help you make a more informed decision about which path is the right fit for your goals and interests.

Cosmetology is a broad field that covers hair, nails, and skin services, while esthetics focuses specifically on skincare. Both disciplines involve client interaction, hands-on techniques, and creativity, but the training programs and outcomes can differ significantly. Whether you enjoy styling hair, applying makeup, or helping clients achieve healthy skin, theres a path in either direction.

In this blog, well explore the key differences between cosmetology and esthetics, including training focus, daily responsibilities, work environments, and career flexibility. Well also share guidance for choosing the right program and highlight how 做厙輦⑹ can help you get started in either profession.

Core Focus and Scope of Training

Cosmetology offers a broader education that includes hair, nails, and skin care. In contrast, esthetics programs focus specifically on skincare and facial treatments.

Cosmetology students learn a wide range of beauty services, including haircutting, hair coloring, styling, manicures, pedicures, makeup application, and basic skincare. This diverse training can help students build the foundational skills used in a variety of salon and spa environments. A cosmetologist may perform multiple types of services throughout the day, making this career a good fit for those who enjoy variety and creative expression.

Esthetics, on the other hand, centers on skincare. Students in esthetician programs learn how to perform facials, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, waxing, and other treatments designed to improve and maintain skin health. Estheticians often provide services and guidance aimed at helping clients care for their skin and maintain healthy skincare routines.

Understanding the scope of each program can help you select an educational path that reflects your interests and aspirations.

Licensing and Time Commitment

Your choice between cosmetology and esthetics may also come down to the time required to complete training and obtain a license.

Program Duration and Licensing Requirements

Cosmetology programs generally require more hours of training than esthetics programs. This is because cosmetology covers a broader range of topics, including hair, nails, and skincare.

After completing a program, both cosmetologists and estheticians must pass a state licensure exam. These exams test knowledge and practical skills to ensure students are prepared to provide safe and effective services.

The difference in time commitment may appeal to students with specific scheduling needs. If youre eager to enter the workforce quickly and are passionate about skincare, esthetics may be the right fit. If you prefer a more comprehensive education that covers multiple beauty services, cosmetology could be a better choice.

Career Opportunities and Work Environments

Both cosmetologists and estheticians can work in a range of settings, but the types of services they provide will influence where they work and what their day-to-day looks like.

Types of Jobs and Workplace Settings

Cosmetologists may work in salons, spas, resorts, or even entertainment and fashion settings, offering services like haircutting, coloring, styling, and manicures. Some cosmetologists may also pursue roles in salon management, product sales, or education. The versatility of cosmetology training may open doors to various roles in the beauty industry, depending on individual interests and goals.

Estheticians typically work in skincare clinics, day spas, medical spas, and dermatology offices. Their focus is on facial treatments, skincare consultations, and product recommendations. Some estheticians may also specialize in advanced techniques such as lymphatic drainage or LED therapy.

While both career paths involve client service, cosmetologists often work on aesthetic enhancement of hair and nails, while estheticians focus on promoting skin health. Understanding these differences can help you envision the type of work environment youd thrive in.

Personal Strengths and Career Preferences

When comparing cosmetology vs. esthetics, it helps to reflect on your interests and strengths. Each profession requires unique qualities and offers distinct experiences.

Matching Interests with Career Paths

Cosmetology may be a great choice if you enjoy working with hair, creating new styles, or providing a wide range of beauty services. Its ideal for individuals who enjoy variety and have a creative eye for hair and fashion trends.

If youre more interested in skincare, health, and helping clients address skin concerns, esthetics may be a better fit. Estheticians often take a more consultative approach, using their knowledge of products and treatments to develop customized skincare routines.

Your preferences for work environment, client interaction, and specialization should guide your decision. Some individuals choose to pursue both licenses to diversify their skillset and broaden their professional knowledge.

Choosing the Right Path for You

If youre still deciding between cosmetology and esthetics, consider your long-term goals, time availability, and passion areas.

Tailoring Your Education to Your Lifestyle

Think about whether you want a more specialized or broad focus. Also consider how much time youre able to invest in training and what type of work feels most fulfilling to you.

At 做厙輦⑹, youll find supportive staff who are ready to answer your questions and guide you toward a program that aligns with your personal and professional goals.

The Full Specialist with Spa Services diploma program is more than just a combination of aesthetic skincare, but also includes nail technology, advanced, and paramedical facial procedures. Its a program that combines skincare and nail technology training to help students provide services aimed at enhancing the client experience..

做厙輦⑹ offers two types of cosmetology programs: Barbering Styling/Cosmetology Diploma, which, upon passing the exam, the successful graduates will become licensed in both fields (Florida Board of Cosmetology and Florida Barbers Board licensure), or Cosmetology Diploma (Florida Board of Cosmetology).

The Value of Education in Beauty Careers

Whether you choose cosmetology or esthetics, a quality education is the foundation of a career in the beauty industry. The right program will offer hands-on training, experienced instructors, and a curriculum that prepares you for licensing and real-world work.

Healthy skin is not only a reflection of overall wellness but also a key factor in how we age. As time progresses, skin undergoes natural changes, such as reduced elasticity, slower cell turnover, and increased dryness, that contribute to visible signs of aging. However, with consistent skincare strategies and healthy habits, individuals may be able to support their skins appearance and overall health over time.

Todays skincare goes beyond aesthetics. It combines science-backed routines, healthy habits, and personalized care. Whether you’re aiming to reduce the appearance of fine lines, maintain hydration, or prevent sun damage, consistent care plays a significant role in long-term skin health.

This blog will explore practical techniques and habits that can help promote healthier-looking skin over time. From sun protection to proper hydration, product selection to professional treatments, well offer actionable insights for integrating anti-aging skincare strategies into daily life. Whether you’re pursuing personal wellness or considering a future in the skincare field, understanding these foundational principles is a great place to begin.

Daily Habits That Promote Skin Longevity

Consistent Skincare Routines Matter

Daily habits have a lasting impact on how the skin ages. A consistent skincare routinemorning and nightmay support a healthy-looking complexion and help manage the visible effects of aging.

Cleansing is a fundamental first step. Removing dirt, makeup, and excess oil keeps pores clear and preps the skin for treatment products. For most skin types, a gentle, non-stripping cleanser works well. Follow with a toner if desired, then apply serums or moisturizers designed for your skins needs.

Moisturizers are essential at every age. Even oily skin needs hydrationjust in lightweight, non-comedogenic forms. Look for products with hyaluronic acid, peptides, or ceramides to support the skin barrier.

Dont overlook the eyes and neck. Eye creams with caffeine or peptides can help reduce puffiness and fine lines, while moisturizing the neck area can minimize creasing over time.

Most importantly, consistency is key. Applying targeted products regularly over time can offer more visible results than trying many new trends without a routine.

The Role of Sun Protection in Anti-Aging

Sunscreen Is Non-Negotiable

One of the most effective strategies for anti-aging and skincare maintenance is daily sun protection. Ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun are a major contributor to premature skin aging, often referred to as photoaging. This includes wrinkles, sunspots, and loss of skin elasticity.

Wearing a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher every day, regardless of the weather, can help protect the skin from UVA and UVB rays. For those spending extended time outdoors, reapplying every two hours is recommended.

There are two main types of sunscreens: chemical and mineral. Chemical sunscreens absorb UV rays, while mineral (or physical) sunscreens reflect them. Both are effective; the best option depends on your skin sensitivity and personal preference.

Protective clothing, wide-brimmed hats, and seeking shade during peak sun hours can also reduce sun exposure. Combined, these habits may help maintain a smoother, more even-toned appearance over time.

Nutrition and Hydration for Skin Health

Internal Care Supports External Glow

Skincare isnt just about what you apply on the outsidewhat you consume has an impact too. Proper nutrition and hydration are foundational to strategies for anti-aging and skincare maintenance.

A diet rich in antioxidants helps fight oxidative stress, which can accelerate skin aging. Foods like berries, leafy greens, nuts, and fatty fish offer vitamins C and E, zinc, and omega-3 fatty acids that support collagen production and reduce inflammation.

Hydration plays a critical role as well. Drinking enough water throughout the day can support skin hydration and contribute to overall skin health. While topical moisturizers trap water in the skin, staying hydrated from the inside ensures cells function properly.

Limiting excess sugar and processed foods is part of a healthy lifestyle that may positively impact how skin looks and feels. High-sugar diets can contribute to glycation, a process that breaks down collagen and leads to wrinkles.

Incorporating these internal strategies enhances the effectiveness of your topical skincare routine.

Professional Skincare Treatments

Enhancing Results with Expert Support

For individuals looking to address specific concerns or support aging skin, professional skincare treatments can complement home routines. Treatments performed by trained skincare specialists offer deeper exfoliation, hydration, and rejuvenation.

Facials tailored to your skin type can help improve tone and texture, unclog pores, and stimulate circulation. More advanced options like chemical peels and microdermabrasion target fine lines, sunspots, and dullness.

Laser treatments or microneedlingwhen provided by qualified professionalsare often sought by clients looking to address signs of aging or improve skin texture.

These services are most effective when combined with a regular home care routine. Skincare professionals often recommend treatments based on individual skin conditions, age, and goals, ensuring a customized approach.

Regular visits may support ongoing skincare goals and complement a daily home routine.

Skincare Recommendations for Different Needs

Tailoring Your Routine by Age and Skin Type

Not all skin ages the same way, and a personalized approach is often the most effective. Different age groups and skin types benefit from targeted strategies for anti-aging and skincare maintenance.

  • In your 20s: Focus on prevention. Establish good habits like daily SPF use, gentle cleansing, and hydration. Antioxidants such as vitamin C can help protect the skin from early environmental stress.
  • In your 30s: Begin incorporating treatments for cell renewal and collagen support. Retinoids and peptide serums can assist with fine lines and skin texture.
  • In your 40s and beyond: Address deeper hydration needs and volume loss. Look for richer moisturizers, hyaluronic acid, and products that support skin firmness.
  • For oily skin: Use non-comedogenic products, lightweight serums, and gel-based moisturizers.
  • For dry or sensitive skin: Prioritize soothing ingredients like ceramides, oat extract, or aloe vera. Avoid harsh exfoliants or high-strength actives without professional guidance.

Adjusting skincare routines based on life stage and skin condition may help improve comfort and effectiveness.

The Role of Education in Skincare and Anti-Aging

Build Expertise Through Formal Training

In todays world, the beauty industry is rapidly evolving, with a growing awareness of environmental concerns and a shift towards sustainable, eco-friendly practices. People are becoming more conscious of the impact their beauty routines have on the planet, and the demand for natural beauty products and sustainable practices is increasing. This shift represents an exciting opportunity for beauty professionals and enthusiasts alike to embrace greener alternatives without compromising quality or effectiveness.

This blog post will explore the benefits of sustainable beauty, eco-friendly product choices, and how you can integrate these practices into your routine or profession. Let’s dive into the key aspects of embracing natural beauty and eco-friendly beauty practices.

1. What is Natural Beauty and Why Does It Matter?

Natural beauty focuses on using products that are free from harmful chemicals, synthetic ingredients, and environmentally damaging practices. Instead, these products are derived from natural, sustainable sources, offering a gentler approach to skincare, makeup, and personal care while promoting long-term health for both individuals and the planet.

By choosing natural beauty products, you are making a conscious decision to support cleaner ingredients that are often free from sulfates, parabens, and artificial fragrances, all of which can have negative effects on both skin health and the environment.

Why Natural Beauty Matters:

– Healthier Skin: By avoiding harsh chemicals, natural products are often better for your skin, especially for those with sensitive skin or allergies.

– Eco-Friendly: Many natural beauty products are sustainably sourced and use environmentally friendly packaging, which reduces waste.

– Animal Welfare: A large number of natural beauty brands are also cruelty-free, ensuring that no animals are harmed in the production or testing of the products.

As a result, embracing natural beauty is more than just improving personal well-being; its about making choices that protect the planet and its inhabitants.

2. Choosing Eco-Friendly Products: What to Look For

With the growing demand for eco-friendly products, the market is filled with options that claim to be green or sustainable. However, not all products are created equal, and its essential to know what to look for when making environmentally conscious beauty choices.

Key Considerations for Eco-Friendly Beauty Products:

– Biodegradable Ingredients: Look for ingredients that break down naturally without polluting the environment. Many synthetic chemicals used in traditional products are harmful to waterways and ecosystems.

– Sustainable Packaging: Packaging waste is a significant concern in the beauty industry. Opt for products that use recyclable, reusable, or compostable packaging materials, like glass, metal, or biodegradable plastics.

– Ethical Sourcing: Choose products made from ethically sourced ingredients. Many brands now prioritize fair trade and sustainable harvesting practices, ensuring that local communities and ecosystems arent harmed.

– Vegan and Cruelty-Free: Vegan and cruelty-free products are a huge part of eco-friendly beauty. This means that the products contain no animal-derived ingredients and are not tested on animals.

3. Sustainable Beauty Practices for Professionals

Beauty professionals, from makeup artists to estheticians, can make a significant impact by adopting sustainable practices in their salons or beauty businesses. For those pursuing a career in beauty or wellness, learning about sustainable beauty is essential for staying relevant in a rapidly changing industry.

Here are some ways beauty professionals can embrace sustainable beauty practices:

– Use Eco-Friendly Products: Stock your salon or spa with natural, organic products that promote health and sustainability. Brands like Aveda, Dr. Hauschka, and Burt’s Bees offer professional-grade eco-friendly products.

– Reduce Water Waste: Implement water-saving practices during services like facials and hair washing. For instance, you can reduce water consumption by using misting sprays instead of full washes, and ensure that all water waste is properly filtered.

– Energy Efficiency: Opt for energy-efficient lighting, and switch to energy-saving equipment in your salon. You can also invest in renewable energy sources like solar panels to power your business.

– Sustainable Tools and Equipment: From biodegradable applicators to cruelty-free brushes, there are many sustainable tools available for beauty professionals. Choose materials like bamboo or recycled plastics to minimize your environmental footprint.

4. The Future of Sustainable Beauty: What to Expect

The future of the beauty industry is undoubtedly moving towards sustainability. As consumers become more aware of the impact their choices have on the environment, beauty brands are responding by offering more eco-conscious products and solutions. The rise of refillable packaging, plant-based formulas, and minimalistic beauty routines are just the beginning.

Moreover, sustainable beauty isnt just a trendits a movement. As more research emerges about the benefits of natural ingredients and the harm caused by synthetic chemicals, the beauty industry is likely to continue evolving in this direction. For beauty professionals, staying informed and educated about sustainable beauty practices will be crucial in delivering services that align with consumer expectations.

Embracing sustainable and eco-friendly beauty practices is an important step toward creating a healthier planet and healthier people. Whether youre a beauty professional or an enthusiast looking to improve your routine, adopting natural beauty products and practices is a win for both you and the environment.

Beauty and wellness professionals play a vital role in enhancing the lives of their clients. Beyond their day-to-day work, many professionals actively contribute to their communities, making a significant positive impact. In this blog, we will explore how beauty and wellness professionals give back to their communities and the various ways they make a difference.

Volunteering Time and Skills

Free Services for Those in Need

One of the most direct ways beauty and wellness professionals give back is by offering free services to those in need. Many salons and wellness centers organize events where they provide haircuts, styling, massages, and other services to homeless shelters, women’s shelters, and low-income communities.

Community Events and Fundraisers

Beauty and wellness professionals often participate in community events and fundraisers to support local causes. By volunteering their time and expertise at charity events, such as walkathons, health fairs, and school functions, they help raise funds and awareness for important issues. These events also provide a platform for professionals to connect with their community and showcase their commitment to making a difference.

Educational Outreach

Workshops and Seminars

Another way beauty and wellness professionals give back is through educational outreach. They conduct workshops and seminars in schools, community centers, and non-profit organizations to educate people about self-care, grooming, and wellness practices. These sessions empower individuals with the knowledge and skills to take better care of themselves, promoting overall well-being in the community.

Mentorship Programs

Mentorship programs are another impactful way for beauty and wellness professionals to contribute. By mentoring aspiring beauty and wellness students, they provide guidance, support, and real-world insights that can help the next generation succeed in their careers.

Sustainable Practices

Promoting Eco-Friendly Products

Many beauty and wellness professionals are advocates for sustainability and environmentally friendly practices. By promoting and using eco-friendly products, they help reduce the environmental impact of their industry. This benefits our planet and encourages clients to make more sustainable choices in their personal care routines.

Green Initiatives

Salons and wellness centers often implement green initiatives, such as recycling programs, energy-efficient lighting, and water-saving techniques, to reduce their carbon footprint. By adopting these practices, beauty and wellness professionals set an example for their community and contribute to a healthier environment.

Supporting Local Businesses

Collaboration with Local Artisans

Beauty and wellness professionals often collaborate with local artisans and small businesses to support their community. By sourcing products locally and featuring local artisans work in their salons and wellness centers, they help stimulate the local economy and build strong community connections.

Participating in Local Markets

Participating in local markets and fairs is another way beauty and wellness professionals support their community. By setting up booths and offering services or selling products, they engage with the community, promote their business, and support local events. This involvement helps create a sense of unity and encourages community members to support one another.

Beauty and wellness professionals contribute to their communities by giving back, including volunteering, educational outreach, sustainable practices, and supporting local businesses. Their contributions not only enhance the well-being of individuals but also strengthen community bonds and promote a healthier, more sustainable environment. Whether you’re dealing with the heat of summer, the crispness of fall, the chill of winter, or the bloom of spring, adapting your skincare routine is essential. In this blog, we’ll explore skin care tips that are tailored for every season, and the diverse conditions experienced by individuals living in a region with a wide range of temperatures and environmental factors.

Hydration is Key: Summer and Winter Essentials

In warmer months, the humid climate can lead to increased sweating, potentially causing dehydration. Counteract this by staying hydrated, both internally and externally. Opt for lightweight, water-based moisturizers to avoid clogging pores.

On the flip side, winter air tends to be drier, leading to potential skin dryness and flakiness. During colder seasons, switch to richer, oil-based moisturizers to lock in moisture and provide a protective barrier against harsh winds and cold temperatures.

Sunscreen is a Year-Round Necessity

While it may be tempting to associate sunscreen exclusively with summer, it’s a skincare essential in every season. The sun’s harmful UV rays can penetrate clouds and cause damage, even on overcast days. Opt for a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30, and apply it generously, regardless of the season.

Seasonal Exfoliation: Renewing Your Skin’s Glow

Each season brings about changes in skin texture, and exfoliation becomes a crucial step in maintaining a healthy complexion. In warmer months, consider incorporating chemical exfoliants like alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) to slough off dead skin cells gently. During colder seasons, a switch to physical exfoliants, such as scrubs, can help remove dry and flaky skin.

Adjusting Your Cleansing Routine

The changing seasons also impact the effectiveness of your cleansing routine. In hotter months, sweat and excess oil production may necessitate more frequent cleansing to prevent breakouts. Conversely, in colder months, you may find that a gentler, hydrating cleanser helps combat dryness without stripping your skin of essential oils.

Seasonal Serums for Targeted Care

A skin care tip tailored for every season includes incorporating serums that address specific concerns. For instance, in the summer, opt for serums with antioxidants to combat free radical damage from increased sun exposure. In winter, focus on serums containing hyaluronic acid to boost hydration and maintain a plump complexion.

Protecting Your Skin’s Barrier

As temperatures fluctuate, your skin’s barrier may be compromised. During extreme weather conditions, such as cold winters or hot summers, consider using a protective barrier cream. These creams create a shield against harsh elements, helping to maintain your skin’s natural defenses.

For achieving sleek, straight styles or adding waves and curls, a reliable flat iron is a must-have. Look for a flat iron with adjustable temperature settings to cater to various hair types and textures.

Manicure and Pedicure Kit: Nail Care

For beauticians offering nail care services, a manicure and pedicure kit is indispensable. This toolkit should include nail clippers, files, cuticle pushers, and other essentials to ensure a professional and hygienic nail care experience for clients.

Skin Analysis Tools: Personalized Skincare Consultations

Beauticians focusing on skincare should invest in skin analysis tools such as magnifying lamps and facial steamers. These tools enable professionals to perform thorough skin assessments, tailoring skincare treatments to the unique needs of each client.

Whether you are a beauty enthusiast or are hoping to start a career in the beauty industry, its important to be meticulous about keeping your beauty tools clean and pristine. Routinely cleaning your beauty tools will not only extend their lifespan but will also prevent the growth and spread of bacteria. Read on for the top tips to clean and maintain your tools.

Makeup Sponges

Makeup sponges or beauty blenders are very popular now for applying liquid and cream foundations and other makeup because they blend so nicely. Whether you use them wet, damp, or dry, you should wash them after each use with warm water and mild soap. Squeeze the sponge under running water until the water runs clear and there are no more suds, remove extra moisture by squeezing it in a clean towel, and then let air dry.

Makeup Brushes

While there is no exact rule as to how often you clean your makeup brushes, you should probably shoot for once every week or two. Brush hairs are porous and can hold on to dirt and bacteria. To wash your brushes, dip the bristles in lukewarm water, place a drop of mild cleanser on your palm, and massage the bristles into the cleanser. Then rinse thoroughly, squeeze out extra moisture, reshape the bristles and allow to air dry with the bristles hanging off the edge of the countertop.

Manicure Tools

Manicure tools such as nail clippers, files, cuticle nippers and nail scissors come in direct contact with skin tissue (sometimes occasionally breaking the skin ouch!), so its very important to keep these clean and disinfected. Wash these tools with an antibacterial soap and warm water after each use; or for a deeper clean, scrub with a clean toothbrush and wipe down with rubbing alcohol. Let these tools air dry fully before putting them back in a drawer.

Hot Hair Tools

If you use styling products or heat protectants on your hair prior to using a flat iron or curling iron, those products can gradually build up on those tools, reducing their effectiveness. Make sure your hot tool is off, unplugged, and cool, and then wipe down the surfaces with a cotton ball dipped in rubbing alcohol. Once the gunk is removed, wipe down with water and then dry with a soft towel.

Tweezers

Tweezers, which are usually used for removing hair (taming those brows for example), should also be cleaned after each use, ideally with a Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol. Since tweezers are typically used on the face, they should be kept sanitized so they dont cause breakouts.
